The smaller items might be hidden under the larger ones and thus working with them could get difficult. Layers can help you to keep track of your items.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Think of the layers as transparent planes, each containing graphic items that are glued together. If you change the order of the layers, you also change the position (visibility) of the items on the canvas. You can move items within a single layer, or you can group together multiple items spread throughout several layers. If you copy objects, then a new object is copied into the layer of the original object.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Layers can be controlled from two different places. There is a Layer window located above the properties window (toggle its visibility in the main menu \u2013 section Windows), and there is a Layer Combo Item located on the GUI Toolbar.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Layer Combo<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Layer Combo option is located on the right side of the GUI Toolbar:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.1.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.1\" width=\"600\" height=\"94\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the Layer Combo option, you can control all aspects of Layers. An explanation of the controls is in the following picture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.2.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.2\" width=\"350\" height=\"254\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Layer Window<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Layer window is activated in the main menu. Go to Window and toggle Layer Window visibility on\/off.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.3.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.3\" width=\"300\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Layer Window and the Layer Combo option are complementary elements; both of them allow you to access all functions of Layers. The Layer window occupies more space, and so it allows for more comfortable control of layers than the Layer Combo option. An explanation of the controls is in the following picture:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.4.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.4\" width=\"250\" height=\"189\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layer Visibility<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change the layer\u2019s visibility, click on the eye icon of the corresponding layer.<\/p>\n<p>TAB + OBR, OBR<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Locking selection<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can lock a selection for a given layer by clicking on the Lock icon. If the layer is locked, you will not be able to select any of its elements.<\/p>\n<p>TAB + OBR, OBR<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Setting Active Layer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Active layer is the one into which new objects are drawn. For example, if you set the active layer to a layer named \u201cBackground\u201d and then create a new object, this object will be created in the layer called Background. The Active layer cannot be locked, as you cannot create new elements on locked layers.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Setting Active Layer in Layer Combo control<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If there is no object selected in your view, the name of the active layer is displayed in the Layer combo control.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.5.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.5\" width=\"250\" height=\"125\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To select a new active layer:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. Make sure you have no object selected in your view. If you have selected objects, use the escape key to unselect all objects or click on a canvas)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Click on the Layer Combo control, and list of layers is shown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. Click on a layer name, which you want to set as the new Active Layer.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Setting Active Layer in Layer Window<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Active layer is denoted in the Layer Window by the checked checkbox on the left side of the layer control.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.6.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.6\" width=\"250\" height=\"82\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To select a new active layer, simply check the checkbox next to the desired layer.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Creating New Layer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To create a new layer, press the \u201c+\u201d button. A new dialog appears; enter the Layer name and confirm. A new layer will be created.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.7.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.7\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Removing Layer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To remove an existing layer, click on its name and press the \u201c<em>\u2013<\/em>\u201d button. If the layer you are about to delete contains any graphical objects, you will be presented with a warning:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.8.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.8\" width=\"400\" height=\"149\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you continue, the layer will be deleted along with all the graphical objects it contains.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #f22440;\"><strong>WARNING: If you delete a layer, all graphical objects contained in the layer will be removed as well. This action cannot be undone.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Selecting all items in given layer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To select all items in given layer, click on the <em>select all items <\/em>icon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.9.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.9\" width=\"250\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layer Name<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change a layer name, double click on the layer name. The Rename dialog will be shown. Change the name and press the <em>OK<\/em> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.10.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.10\" width=\"400\" height=\"157\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Special Purpose Layer &#8211; ActiveArea<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As you might notice, the topmost layer is always a layer named \u201cActiveArea\u201d. This Layer cannot be removed or shifted. It only contains active areas defined in your views. Active areas are always on top of the rest of your drawings.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Determining Layers of selected objects<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you select an object or multiple objects, the layer containing these objects will be displayed in the Layer Combo box and highlighted in green in the layer list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.11.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.11\" width=\"200\" height=\"345\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">. 1 The selected object is on the layer named &#8220;Middle Layer&#8221;. You can see the name of the layer in the Layer Combo control panel. Note that the name is in bold.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.12.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.12\" width=\"210\" height=\"263\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">. 2 The selected object is on the layer with the name &#8220;Middle Layer.&#8221; This is shown in the Layer Window by a green highlight and bold font.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"manualodstavec\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">If you select multiple objects belonging to different Layers, the Layer controls will highlight all corresponding layers in green. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet_plus imglist\">\n<li class=\"manualodstavec\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: #999999;\">Note: The Layer Combo box will show the name of the top layer in the selection; its name will not be in bold.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.13.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.13\" width=\"500\" height=\"279\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Moving Objects to different Layer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you want to move objects to a different layer, select the objects on the canvas and then select the desired layer. The selected objects are all moved to the desired layer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.14.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.14\" width=\"200\" height=\"143\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">A green highlight shows which layer contains your selected objects.\u00a0To move the selection to a different layer, just click on the layer name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.15.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.15\" width=\"210\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">A green highlight shows which layer contains your selected objects. To move the selection to a different layer, just click on the layer name.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Order of Layers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Changing the order of Layers is quite simple. Just select a layer you want to move and then click on the Up or Down arrow to move it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Layers at the top of the list overlap the layers at the bottom of the list. Therefore, if you move a layer up, it will overlap all the layers below it in the list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.16.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.16\" width=\"250\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.17.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.17\" width=\"300\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layers Properties<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change layer properties, press the setting button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.18.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.18\" width=\"250\" height=\"126\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You will be presented with the Layer Settings dialog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.19.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.19\" width=\"500\" height=\"434\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The layer settings dialog has two parts; on the left side, there is a list of layers. You can add, delete, change position, and merge layers with the buttons at the bottom of the list. On the right side, there is a settings pane for the selected layer.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layer Name<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change a layer\u2019s name, click on the layer in the list of layers to select it. Then you can write a new name in the Name box.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.20.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.20\" width=\"250\" height=\"96\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layer Opacity<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change a layer\u2019s opacity, click on the layer in the list of layers to select it. Then drag the Opacity slider to change it to a new value.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.21.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.21\" width=\"250\" height=\"96\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layer Visibility<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change a layer\u2019s visibility, click on the layer in the list of layers to select it. Then, fill in the conditions for visibility. E.g., enter tag and minimum and maximum values. If the tag value is within the range of the specified minimum and maximum values, the layer will be visible.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.22.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.22\" width=\"300\" height=\"138\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing Layer visibility based on Zoom level<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To change a layer\u2019s zoom visibility, click on the layer in the list of layers to select it. Then check the zoom visibility check box. Now you can specify the minimum and maximum zoom level when the layer will be visible.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/myscada.org\/downloads\/manuals_image\/img_6.15.23.jpg\" alt=\"6.15.23\" width=\"350\" height=\"110\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For more information about zoom visibility animation, please refer to the chapter <a href=\"\/en\/documentation\/animations\">Animations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0084c8;\">Changing user access rights for given layer<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can limit who can view the objects in a given layer. In addition, you can limit which users will have access rights for objects in given layer. To change a layer\u2019s access rights, click on the layer\u00a0 in the list of layers to select it.
